Filter maintenance problems can occur during winter months when the temperature of the fuel standby drops below the cloud point and wax starts ozone generator to be filtered out. this accumulated wax will eventually dissolve when the fuel heats up and may cause some operation problems such as rough running and black smoke. winter conditions may require switching to #1 diesel fuel if available. fuel-injection pumps -- there are two basic types of fuel injection pumps: in-line and distributor. (in february, i will explain how a distributor pump operates and discuss some standby troubleshooting portable generator hints). both in-line and distributor pumps may include a separate, built-in transfer pump. regular readers of this column will remember that one of my long-standing concerns with most commercial kitchen equipment standby is its inability to survive heavy cleaning sessions with pressure washers, hoses and the like.too few manufacturers consider that to be enough of an issue to make changes in equipment to accommodate the types of cleaning methods used today. in one of my tag generator missives to a senior executive of one of the standby larger manufacturers, generator and standby i begged him to go and observe what went on inside a commercial kitchen at generator 1 a.m. when it was time for the cleaners to do their job. ©2003 www.standbygenerator.net.
